Geekbaby has landed. He arrived at about 1045 this morning weighing in at 9 pounds even. He’s 21.5 inches long and already shaking his tiny hands in impotent fury. And the immediate family has already started to visit. ”Welcome to parenthood” I’ve heard. Which I acknowledge and appreciate. I say, now that we’re here, “Let’s see what’s out there”

Wish there was more to say, but all that can be said is that progress is being made but it’s slow. It’s been a very long day and it’s looking to be just as long a night. Once there’s more to say, it’ll be said.

Well, after hoping it wouldn’t come to this we’re now in the hospital doing the induction. It’s not really what we wanted, but that’s ok. I have faith that everything will work out in the end. We’re at Methodist and Geekbaby and Geekmomma are doing all right. I get to sleep on the couch. All’s well. WIll update as things progress.

Hurry up and wait….and wait…..and wait.

There’s a line in Casablanca that goes something like..”There, through money or influence or luck are able to acquire exit visas and scurry to the new world. The others simply wait and wait and wait….. I feel like the song “Knock on Wood” should be playing in the background. And if you haven’t seen the movie you’re an uncultured heathen who should be beaten with a 10 lb. catfish. In any event, I begin to understand the sentiment as we sit and wait for Geekbaby to come out. Hospital visit is in the works but going nowhere quickly as we have to keep calling to see if there’s a bed available. Getting up at 4 in the morning to make that call does not make for a happy Geekmomma. Ah well, we’ll update as things happen.

Oooooook. Orders for the today. Call the bosses and tell them I can’t go in today. Call the Deacon and arrange to have the little heathen angel to be baptized. Call the hospital at 2 p.m. to see if they’ll be ready for us at 5….wait, why do I have a phone call at 5 a.m. from the hospital asking where we are? Oh, it’s because we’re booked for both 5 p.m. AND 5 a.m. I wonder if we can make it to both appointments at once….

No, the title does not refer to a certain stubborn bundle of joy. I’ve just finished reading “Well of Ascension” by Brandon Sanderson. If book 3 isn’t out by at least it’s tentative October release date, I think I’m going to go loony(er).

GB is being a bit of a jerk. Yesterday was the official due date. Now I have no actual belief that the kid was going to decide to magically appear on the date decided probably at random. And I have absolutely no complaint that he’s not arriving before the car seat. But Mommy’s getting cranky and when Mommy ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy. So now it’s off to the mall and other errands to see if bright lights and walking around encourage the little bugger to drop.

Guess what. Un update means squat when there’s nothing much to update. Geekbaby is proving to be a rather stubborn little boggart ( I wonder who he gets that from). Everything, materially speaking anyway, is ready to roll so we’re waiting on his royal worshipfulness’ pleasure. Otherwise, all’s well and as soon as anything drops (I made a funny! Right?) I’ll repost.

I’m going to be good. I have a child due in a few days and the least I could do is start actually keeping up with something. If I can’t do this on a regular basis for a few minutes a night, how can I expect to actually oh horror of horrors, care for a child. Granted, I could be doing something important like laundry or dishes, but they’ll still get done…. Anyway, for the uninitiated, I am going to be a daddy. If you follow certain theological principles I’ve been a daddy for sometime. But now it comes to the wire. There’s been an official due date set, the doctor has ordered induction and we’re properly freaking out due to materiel shortages. And then there’s the whole, “HOLY CRAP WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A CHILD” That’s a heck of a trip. Okay, I have absolutely no idea what to put in here except we’re code naming the kid Geekbaby and he already has a set of scrubs thanks to a buddy of ours. Be a doctor baby. Be a doctor.
